BACKGROUND / CONVICTIONS

  • Group operating in the piping and lifting sector, having generated a turnover of c. € 700 million (2/3 in Europe and 1/3 worldwide) and employing around 5,000 people to serve c. 1,500 customers.
  • Impact of skilled workforce scarcity and components price increase on the net margin (~6% vs. 3.5% YoY).
  • Reflection on the optimization of the cost base and the organization of the head office.
  • Conviction 1 : Group Governance structures cost base (e.g. holding vs. integrated model).
  • Conviction 2 : Any organization creates inefficiencies when not challenged in years
  • Conviction 3 : Optimization levers will not work out if not co-created with personnel

IDEA / VALUE CREATION

  • Idea : Improve cost base competitiveness via a collection of macro and micro levers using a portfolio of techniques including digitization “at reach” (e.g. AI-RPA, OCR-VR)

  • Value creation : Extraction of earnings for about 15% of the addressable cost base, i.e.  support functions of the headquarters and the business units (€8m earnings out of a total of about €50m)

We have imagined and designed a leading institutional data servicing platform creating worth +200 m€ for 2 servicers.

BACKGROUND / CONVICTIONS

  • Background : We observe a growing demand for Data Servicing for Institutional investors triggered by regulation (e.g. fund transparency / Green / ESG look through)

  • Conviction 1 : There is a part of data demand that will commoditize as market mature

  • Conviction 2 : This data demand requires scale (e.g. ISIN codes) to meet investor’s demand

  • Conviction 3 : Custodians can claim their legitimacy on “Data Safe Box / Certification Role”

  • Conviction 4 : Digital platform can enable cost sharing while increasing banking multiple (cf. other industries example such as Airlines / Amadeus)

IDEA / VALUE CREATION

  • Idea : Create a European Champion of Institutional Data Servicing merging 2 leading Securities Servicers Data and Digital assets.
  • Value creation : + 200 m€ from scratch within 4 years
